Here’s a trick or treat themed printable for your little ones – some candy repeating pattern mats.
Patterns are all around us and and children love to spot them. Patterns can help children understand the world around them, how things change over time, and begin to make predictions.
By using these Halloween pattern mats, your little learners will strengthen their ability to recognize and predict sequences, a crucial skill in both math and everyday problem-solving. Plus, they’ll get a fine motor workout as they carefully place each tile on the mat!
There’s quite a lot in this pack – for each pattern type (AB, ABB and ABC) there’s two copy mats and two mats to complete as well as some ‘create your own’ mats.
What Skills Can Your Little Ones Learn And Develop?
These candy repeating pattern mats are designed to help your children practice and develop some early skills, such as:
- Patterns – being able to spot and understand patterns
- Logic and reasoning skills – using prior knowledge to help them predict what will come next
- Hand-eye coordination – to be able to understand what they are seeing and use their hands to go where they want them to
- Fine motor skills – as they place the tiles in the correct order.

How To Prepare The Candy Pattern Mats
First you’re going to want to download the Halloween pattern pack by clicking on download button at the bottom of the page.

Then print it off and cut out and laminate the parts you need.
As I previously mentioned, there’s quite a bit in the pack, so you may want to just print off a certain part (eg. just go for the AB patterns).
There’s a tile sheet, which will need to be cut up – a guillotine should make short work of this!
Then for each pattern type there’s 2 copy patterns. This is to help them get into pattern mode! Pointing to each picture in turn and saying what it is aloud can help the child get a feel for the ‘rhythm’ of the pattern.
Then they can have a go copying it by placing the tiles on the row below.
Once they’re confident with copying the patterns they can move on to completing some! There’s four readymade patterns to complete for each type.
There’s also some create your own pattern mats. They could either make their own complete patterns – or they could start some for you or a friend to finish!
If you want to, you could always use these as worksheets. Grab some scissors and glue and print off a few more of the tile sheets and your little ones will be good to go.
Or they could always draw them on!
