There’s two line-spacing options which mean you can match the page to the writer – wider lines for your emerging writers still building confidence and narrower lines for those who are ready.
There’s also a color version and a black-and-white version in the pack, so you can save ink or let kiddos add their own color to the border before they write.
If you love bee-themed learning, the Build a Busy Little Bee Craftpairs beautifully with these pages – make the craft first, then write all about it.
Time to get writing!
What Skills Can Your kids Learn When Writing?
This woodland animal coloring page can help your children practice and develop their writing skills, such as:
Handwriting and letter formation – Lined paper gives young writers a structured space to practice forming their letters correctly.
Hand and finger strength – the ability to be able to apply enough pressure to make marks on the page and hold the pencil firmly
Hand dominance – developing and strengthening the skill of one of their hands
Crossing the mid-line – this is the ability to cross the imaginary line running down the center of your body – it means they won’t have to switch hands if they want to color on the other side of the page
Pencil grip and control – holding the marker correctly to allow for a full and fluid range of movement
Composition and language development – Writing paper is an open invitation for ideas and these pages can help support a range of early writing development.
Creative thinking and storytelling – A themed page sparks imagination in a way a blank sheet rarely does. The bee border is a gentle prompt – what is that bee doing? Where is she going? What happens next? These small invitations to wonder are where stories begin. Plus it looks cute!

Here are some fun ways to use these bee bordered pages:
Bee Facts
Before writing, spend five minutes as a class coming up with some bee facts. Write them on the board together, then ask your little learners to pick their favorite and write it on their page. This turns the session into a vocabulary-building, knowledge-connecting exercise as well as a handwriting one.
Story Time
Write three bee-themed story starters on the board e.g.: “One morning, a bee woke up and couldn’t find the hive…”, “The smallest bee in the hive had a very big idea…”, “Everyone in the hive had a job, except for one bee who…” – and let children choose the one that grabs them.
Laminate and Use a Dry-Erase Marker
Laminate a copy and your little learners can practice handwriting over and over without using up paper. This works especially well with the wider-line version for emerging writers who need lots of repetition. You could always pair it with the Buzzing Bee Line Tracing Worksheet.
Bee Day Writing Event
Use these pages as the centerpiece of a World Bee Day writing activity (May 20th). Ask children to write a message to a bee, a thank-you note to a beekeeper, or their own “Did You Know?” bee fact. Display the finished pages as a classroom writing wall or send them home as a keepsake.
Phonics Hook – B is for Bee
Turn the writing session into a phonics warm-up by brainstorming all the “b” words they can think of. Write them up together as a word bank, then invite children to write some themselves or think of some other to write down. The HBF Letter Formation Worksheets work well as a warm-up before this if your little ones need some extra practice with the letter B.
However you use these bee writing pages, I hope your little ones fill every line with something wonderful!
Enjoy and let’s nurture those neurons!
