How To Use

Generate custom missing number worksheets in seconds – here’s how to use the tool:

Step 1 – Give Your Worksheet a Title (Optional)

Type a title into the Worksheet Title field. Something like “Missing Numbers Practice” works great, or leave it blank and the tool will create one for you.

Step 2 – Set Your Number Range

Use the quick-pick buttons to choose a common range – 1-10, 1-20, 1-50, or 1-100 – or type your own numbers directly into the From and To fields. This is handy if you’re working on a specific chunk of numbers, like 50-150 or 200-300. The range just needs to be wide enough to fit a full row of numbers inside it.

Step 3 – Choose a Counting Direction

Pick from Forwards, Backwards, or Mixed. Forwards counts up from a random start point; Backwards counts down. Mixed gives your little learners a real challenge – some rows count up and some count down, all on the same sheet.

Step 4 – Adjust the Row Settings

  • Numbers Per Row – choose 5, 8, or 10. Fewer numbers per row means bigger gaps and an easier activity; more numbers keeps things compact and is better for older or more confident learners.
  • Missing Numbers Per Row – choose how many blanks appear in each row.
  • Number of Rows – choose 6, 8, or 10 rows.

Step 5 – Toggle the Extra Options (Optional)

  • Spread Out Missing Numbers – when this is on, blanks are always separated from each other so they can’t appear side by side.
  • Show Instruction Line – prints “Count forwards” or “Count backwards” at the top of the sheet.
  • Show Name Line – adds a “Name: ___” line at the top of the worksheet. On by default – uncheck it if you don’t need it.
  • Answer Sheet – keeps a separate answer sheet download ready to go. Previously missing numbers are shown bold and underlined so they’re easy to spot when marking.

Step 6 – Generate and Download

Hit Generate Worksheet and a preview of the first four rows will appear below. If you’re happy with it, click Download Worksheet to save your PDF. If you turned on the answer sheet, Download Answer Sheet will be right next to it.

Not quite right? Adjust any setting and hit Generate again – or click Make Another to start fresh.

Hope your little learners enjoy filling in the gaps!

FAQ

It generates printable worksheets where children fill in the missing numbers in a sequence. You set the number range and difficulty level, and the tool produces a PDF ready to print in seconds. It’s a quick, low-prep way to create number sequencing practice that’s matched exactly to your learners’ current level.

You can set any number range you need, from 0 upward to 100. So you might set a range of 0-10 for very early learners, 0-20 for Kindergarten, or stretch up toward 100 for more confident counters.

It works well for Pre-K through Grade 2 – really anyone who is working on number recognition, counting sequences, and understanding number order. The range and difficulty settings mean you can pitch it anywhere from a child just learning to count to one who is confidently working to 100.

It’s great for classroom teachers, teaching assistants, homeschool parents, and anyone supporting early math at home. Use it for morning work, math centers, intervention sessions, homework, or as a quick warm-up activity. It’s also handy for assessments – the difficulty settings let you quickly see where a child’s counting confidence drops off.

Two settings let you dial difficulty up or down. First, choose how many missing number gaps appear in each row – more gaps means more to figure out and a trickier sheet. Second, choose how many numbers appear per row – fewer numbers per row makes the sequence easier to follow. Combine these to build exactly the right level of challenge.

Missing number activities build number recognition and counting fluency, understanding of number order and sequences, logical thinking as children work out what comes before and after, and early number sense – the foundation for addition and subtraction.

Yes – there’s a title field at the top of the tool. You can type your own title or leave it blank.
