How To Use

Create custom addition math worksheets and answer keys in just a few clicks. Here’s everything you need to know:

Step 1 – Choose Your Layout

  • Worksheet Title: Give your page a custom title (it defaults to “Addition Practice”).

  • Problem Format: Choose between Horizontal (e.g., 14 + 6 = ___) or Vertical (stacked columns). The vertical layout uses a smart grid to ensure the ones, tens, and hundreds columns are always perfectly aligned!

  • Number of Problems: Pick how many questions you want on the page (10, 16, 20, 24, or 30). The font sizes and grid spacing will automatically scale to fit perfectly.

Step 2 – Set the Difficulty

Use the Number Range section to control how big the numbers get.

  • Click a preset button (like Within 10 or Within 100) for a quick start.

  • Want total control? Click Custom and type your own minimum and maximum numbers into the boxes. The tool will randomly generate numbers within that exact range.

Step 3 – Customize Your Options

  • Regrouping (carrying): This is the magic toggle! If you turn this off, the tool will only generate math problems that can be solved without carrying into the next place-value column.

  • Show Name Line: Turn this off if you don’t need a “Name: ___” space at the top of the printed page.

  • Answer Sheet: Keep this toggled on to unlock the answer key download button.

Step 4 – Choose Your Colors

Click the colored squares to open the color picker. You can choose a custom color for the page Border and the main Title.

Step 5 – Generate, Preview, and Download

Hit the Generate Worksheet button when you’re happy with your settings.

A Preview Card will appear showing you exactly what the first 8 problems look like so you can double-check the difficulty. If it looks good, click:

  • Download Worksheet for the student copy.

  • Download Answer Sheet for the answer key.

Both files download instantly as PDFs. Need a different set of questions with the exact same settings? Just click Make Another!

FAQ

It generates printable addition practice worksheets based on the number range and format you choose. Set your options, hit Generate, and download a PDF ready to print – with an optional answer sheet available alongside it. It’s free to use and produces a fresh set of problems every time.

It works well from Kindergarten upward, starting with simple within-10 adding, right through to Grade 4 and beyond for anyone working on larger numbers or carrying. The number range and regrouping settings mean you can pitch it at exactly the right level – whether your learner is just getting started with addition or tackling four-digit sums.

It’s great for classroom teachers, teaching assistants, homeschool parents, and tutors. Use it for morning work, math centers, homework, timed drills, or intervention sessions. The range and regrouping options make it easy to differentiate quickly – beginners can work within 10 while more confident learners tackle within 1000, all from the same tool.

There are four preset ranges – Within 10 (single-digit addition, great for beginners), Within 20 (a natural step up once the basics are solid), Within 100 (two-digit numbers with a mix of difficulty), and Within 1000 (larger numbers for more advanced practice). You can also set your own minimum and maximum addend values for something in between.

Regrouping (also called carrying) is what happens in column addition when the sum of a column exceeds 9 and you carry a value into the next place – for example, 47 + 36 requires carrying. When the regrouping toggle is on, the tool may include problems like this. Turn it off to generate only problems that can be solved without carrying, which is useful when learners are still building confidence with column addition.

Horizontal format displays problems left to right in the familiar format (14 + 6 = ___), which is great for quick mental math practice. Vertical format stacks the numbers in columns with a line underneath for the answer – and uses smart alignment to ensure the ones, tens, and hundreds columns are always perfectly lined up on the page.

You can choose from 10, 16, 20, 24, or 30 problems per worksheet. The font size and spacing adjust automatically to fit – fewer problems means larger, more spacious text, which is great for younger or less confident learners.
