What Skills Can Your Children Learn And Practice?

When using this counting worksheet, your children will have the chance to practice and develop skills such as:
- Counting skills – they’ll have to count the vet-related things carefully to ensure they are coloring the right amount
- Number recognition – they’ll need to be able to recognize the numbers to make sure they’re coloring the right amount
- One to one correspondence – this important skill (trickier than you may think) is the ability to only touch and count an object of a set once
- Hand and finger strength – the ability to be able to apply enough pressure to make marks on the page and hold the pencil firmly
- Hand dominance – developing and strengthening the skill of one of their hands
- Crossing the mid-line – this is the ability to cross the imaginary line running down the center of your body – it means they won’t have to switch hands if they want to color on the other side of the page
- Pencil control – holding the pencil correctly to allow for a full and fluid range of movement

Get Even More Out of This Community Helper Worksheet
Here are a simple ideas to get a little more from this:
Swap the Crayons for Something New
Pop the sheet in a laminator it becomes reusable. Let your little ones mark each amount with dot stickers, a bingo dauber, or mini erasers etc. instead of crayons, then wipe clean and you’re good to go again.
Turn It Into a Tongs Challenge
Once laminated, set out a little pot of pom-poms or counters and have your kiddos place one on each item instead of coloring. This way it can also help to build some hand strength and pincer grip.
Sneak In a Letter Sound
Veterinarian starts with “v”, so this page makes a neat springboard into beginning sounds. Ask what sound “vet” starts with, then try to think of “v” things they might know. If they are ready for more, our beginning sounds printables could be helpful.
However your little learners use this veterinarian-themed page, I hope they have fun counting along the way!
Enjoy and let’s nurture those neurons!
