Sight Word Flash Cards Online - Type Your Own Words
About the Online Sight Word Flash Quiz
This Sight Word Flash Card Quiz is an interactive flash card tool that makes high-frequency word practice quick. Type your own list or pick a ready-made one, and each word appears big and clear for your little learner to read aloud, then sort into “Got it!” or “Practice.” It works on a phone, a tablet, or the big screen at the front of class, with no printing, cutting, or laminating in sight.
How To Use
Step 1 – Choose Your Words
Pick “Type my own” and enter words one per line or separated by commas, or pick “Use a word bank” and choose a ready-made list and level.
Step 2 – Set the Case and Order
Choose how the words display: lowercase (the default, and the way most early readers first meet words), Capitalized, UPPERCASE, or “As entered” to show them exactly as you typed them. Then choose Shuffle or In order.
Step 3 – Start and Sort
Tap Start, and the first word fills the screen. Your little learner reads it aloud, then you (or they) tap Got it! or Practice.
Step 4 – Review and Practice Again
At the end, the summary shows how many landed in each pile. Tap Practice the tricky words again to replay just the Practice pile, Start over to run the whole list again, or Choose new words to head back and set up a fresh round.
Step 5 – Pick a Theme (Optional)
Choose from 32 themes across Style, Seasons, Holidays, and Topics tabs. The word itself always stays in the clear, early-reader font.
Hope your little learners enjoy it!
FAQ
It is an interactive, on-screen flash card tool for practicing sight words. Words appear one at a time, big and clear, for a child to read aloud and then sort into a “Got it!” pile or a “Practice” pile, and the tricky pile can be replayed at the end. There is nothing to print or cut out.
Sight words are the high-frequency words that appear most often in reading, such as the, and, you, and said. Many cannot be sounded out reliably, so children learn to recognize them instantly. Strong sight word recognition is one of the biggest boosts to early reading fluency.
It is designed for roughly ages 4 to 7, from preschool through second grade, which is when most sight word learning happens. That said, it suits whoever needs it, including older learners building reading confidence or anyone practicing a custom word list.
Yes. Choose “Type my own” and enter any words you like, one per line or separated by commas. It is perfect for your district’s word list, a weekly set, names, or topic vocabulary. You can also pick a ready-made list instead.
You can practice with ready-made lists such as Dolch and Fry, or type your own custom words. Pick the list and level on the setup screen, or switch to your own words anytime.
Your little learner reads each word aloud, then taps (or you tap) “Got it!” or “Practice.” At the end, the summary shows both piles, and you can replay just the Practice pile so time is spent on the words that still need it. It mirrors the folding-in routine many teachers already use.
It is built to work beautifully on a computer, laptop, tablet, or interactive whiteboard, and it works on phones too. On a small phone, the word sizes itself to fit, and turning the phone to landscape gives the biggest, clearest card.
