Rainbow Drawing Tool - Online Sensory Art for Kids
Rainbow Trail
Drag to draw a calming trail of cycling color
About the Rainbow Trail
Drag your finger, mouse, or stylus across the screen and a glowing ribbon of rainbow follows you, then softly fades away. That’s it with this one – no colors to choose, no picture to finish, nothing to get wrong. It’s a calming sensory drawing tool for anyone who needs it, free to use online with no account needed, and it works on a tablet, a touchscreen, or an interactive whiteboard.
How To Use
Step 1 – Draw Away
Press anywhere on the canvas and drag. A glowing rainbow trail follows your finger or mouse and fades away after a while. Several children can draw at the same time on a touchscreen.
Step 2 – Choose Your Colors
Pick Rainbow for the full cycling spectrum, or Theme to draw in the colors of whichever theme you’ve chosen. Theme colors are gentler and more limited, which some children find calmer.
Step 3 – Set the Width and Speed
Width makes the trail thin, medium, or thick. Speed controls how quickly the colors cycle as you draw – Gentle drifts slowly through the rainbow, Lively changes color faster. For a calming session, Gentle and Thick is our favorite combination.
Step 4 – Try the Shape Brush (Optional)
On themed looks, a Brush option appears. Switch it from Line to Shapes and your trail is drawn with that theme’s shapes instead – bats, hearts, stars, snowballs, apples, and more.
Step 5 – Turn On the Sound (Optional)
Sound is off until you tap the speaker button. Once on, the trail sings as you draw – a soft, gentle tone that rises as you move up the screen and falls as you move down.
Step 6 – Clear the Screen
The trail always fades by itself, so you rarely need to. If you’d like a clean start, tap the bin button.
Hope your little learners enjoy it!

Yes, and it’s one of our favorite uses for it. There’s no score, no failure, and no time limit. For a lower-stimulation experience, choose the Gentle speed and Thin width, and either leave the sound off or turn it on for gentle cause-and-effect feedback.
That’s on purpose! The Rainbow Trail is about the drawing, not the drawn. Letting it fade means the screen stays calm, nothing ever looks like a mess, and children can keep going forever without needing to clear anything.
Not in this tool, because the trail is designed to fade. If you’d like drawings that stay put, with a paintbrush, colors, shapes, and a save button, take a look at our Free Draw app instead.
