Printable Neptune Puzzle – Cut And Stick Solar System Worksheet

Differentiated Neptune Puzzle for preschool - cut and paste Space activity for kindergarten (printable pdf)

Here’s a simple cut and paste Neptune puzzle for all the little galactic explorers out there.

Before we blast off, did you know that Neptune is the farthest planet from the Sun in our solar system, making it a cold and windy world enveloped in clouds of ice? And, hold onto your spacecraft, because Neptune boasts the fastest winds in the solar system, with speeds reaching more than 1,200 miles per hour. That’s faster than the speediest commercial jets!

Anyways, this cut and paste activity is easy to prepare (just print off and grab some scissors and glue) and can help your children develop those important fine motor and problem solving skills.

Although puzzles like this may seem simple to us, there’s actually a lot of skills that are needed to solve a puzzle like this.

Firstly, they’ll have to have decent cutting skills to be able to cut the pieces out neatly enough that they line up when placed on the grid (you may need to help them with this though if they find it tricky at first).

Once the pieces are cut out neatly, they’ll have to work out how to maneuver the different pieces so that they all go together to correctly make the picture.

There’s two difficulties, one with Neptune’s outline so your children can see how it should look and one without – if they’re using the harder version, then they may have to use their imagination, memory, or a bit of both, to think about what the final picture should like.

They’ll then have to have good fine motor skills to be able to place and stick the different pieces to the grid correctly.

When using this solar system puzzle, your children will have the chance to practice and develop skills such as:

  • Fine motor skills – they will have to use a good pincer grip to pick up the puzzle pieces and place them in the right place
  • Hand-eye coordination – to ensure they can move and line up the pieces
  • Cutting and sticking – they’ll need good cutting and sticking skills to carefully cut out the puzzle pieces and arrange them correctly on the grid
  • Problem solving – they’ll have to work out how to put the puzzle together correctly using their problem solving skills. Will they work methodically, one piece at a time until they’re happy it looks right? Will they arrange the pieces on the table first before sticking it down? Will they use trial and error to see what works?
  • Shape And Geometry – being able to rotate the pieces and understanding how the different parts of Neptune go together to create the whole picture
  • Patience – they may have to try lots of configurations before they get all the pieces lined up correctly
