This Christmas find and graph game is an active, scavenger hunt-style math activity for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and other early learners. Simply cut out the festive picture cards and hide them around your room or outdoor space. Children will engage their gross motor skills as they hunt for the cards, then build their counting and data handling skills by recording their findings on the graph. It is a fantastic, hands-on learning activity that gets kids moving while practicing some foundational math!

Part scavenger hunt, part graphing game, this activity lets you hide the picture cards and lets the kids hunt them down.
There’s 5 types of cards in the pack – with 5 of each, so you decide how many to hide, and your little ones will graph their findings as they go!
This hands-on activity is fantastic for practicing counting, data collection, and graphing skills—all while keeping kids active and engaged. Plus, it adds a little extra excitement to learning as they race to find each item!
Block graphs, or block diagrams, are a great introduction to data handling and will help your little ones begin to understand how to record and interpret information, as well as improve those all important counting skills!

What Skills Can Your Children Learn And Practice?
Here are a few of the skills that your little ones can learn and practice when completing this find and graph game:
- Visual Scanning and observational skills – The ability to use their vision to search in a systematic way, from top to bottom or left to right.
- Gross Motor Skills – as they’re walking (or likely running) around looking for the cards.
- Social skills – such as listening, taking turns, and communicating with their friends and family.
- Counting – They can count how many of each thing they’ve found.
- Number recognition – they’ll need to be able to recognize the numbers to make sure the amount they’ve counted matches up with the axis
- Data handling – the ability to record and interpret information – they’ll be more easily able to answer questions about the data
- One to one correspondence – this important skill (trickier than you may think) is the ability to only touch and count an object of a set once
- Hand and finger strength – the ability to be able to apply enough pressure to make marks on the page and hold the pencil firmly
- Hand dominance – developing and strengthening the skill of one of their hands
- Pencil control – holding the pencil correctly to allow for a full and fluid range of movement
How To Prepare This Christmas Find and Graph Activity

Copy as many of the graph page as you need.
Then there’s 5 of each picture card to cut out and hide. You’ll probably want to vary the amounts so there’s lots to talk about when they’re done.
You might want to laminate these if you plan on reusing or hiding the cards outside.
When they’re all hidden it’s time to let the hunt begin!
After they’ve found and counted all the cards, it’s time to interpret the data.
Some questions would be good here:
- Which item was there the most of?
- Which item was there the fewest of?
- How many more Santas than elves etc.?
- What else do you notice about the data?
This kind of questioning will really help them to deepen their learning.
